Show Washington Square. A petition was being got up in the 8th ward yesterday, which, we understand under-stand will be liberally Bigued, to have the fence around Washington Bquare removed. If half the stories aie true concerning that public place, the sooner the prayer of the petition is granted and the ground thrown open the better. It haB of late, and for a long time back, teen a rendezvous (or loose characters of both sexe3, and within the enclosure it is supposed that a great deal of Immorality Is practiced. This supposition has been made from observance of the class of frequenters of the square who are nightly Been there. The gossip is very common in the neigh-K,v,nnH neigh-K,v,nnH ihf nn Mm inside of that fence iB no more nor less tban a place of assignation, to which disreputable men and degraded girls and women resort for vile purposes. The taking down ot the high boards which obstruct ob-struct the view from the street may have a tendency to stop these visitors from going there. |
