Show Tits CViHcrt. The coccr-rt given by the ' C '.roles' Orchestra" in Independence hnM, 'est evenirg, wjs WyouJ :'. qoestiuu tbt-mot tbt-mot classical concert that baa ever been given ia this cify. Some time be fere the huur for commencement every available seat in tbe ball w&s occupied and quite a number of persons per-sons were slstiidiug, whose number were augmented until it was almost impossible to Gad standing room. The overtures, of which there were four, by ihe orchestral combination were batter than auy thing of the kind ever before given here, and elicited merited applause. It ia unnecessary tc go into details relative to the manner in which tbe the various selections wore reoderfd, and it would be just to say that all were good, though Eome could have been improved. Miss White, who sang for the first time here in some years, made a favorable impreesion. She has a strong voice which is apparently appar-ently well cultivated. The other appearing were persons of established reputations as musicians and vocalists and require no special mention. If there was any fault in tbe entertainment entertain-ment it might be that it was rather too clateical; and though many present pre-sent appreciated all the selections, there were a greater number that would have been better pleased had there been introduoed a little more melody of an easier character. It bas baen suggested that tho concert be repeated. The entertainment certainly cer-tainly merits a repetition, and were some less difficult pieces substituted for one or two at present on tbe programme pro-gramme it would Blill be a classical Concert and such a one as the general publio would better appreciate. Before the concert commenced the National band went to the ball and tendered the orchestra a complimentary complimen-tary serenade, which was doubtless highly appreciated by the members of the combination, |
