The Eiih-eom mitted of the house committee on banking and currency considering the bill introduced by Bucuner on the Slat ult; requiring reserves ol national banking at-soeiations to be kept in standard gold and silver coiob, in lieu of lawful money, today reported, re-ported, as a substitute, a bill amendatory amenda-tory of Bection 5,191 of the Revised Statutes, eo that national banking associations in the several cities numerated nume-rated in said section, shall hereafter be required, in lieu of lawful money, to have on band at ail times in standard gold and silver coins, or in coin certificate?, at least two-fifths ol 25 per cent of tbe aggregate amount of its notea in circulation and deposits, de-posits, and that overy other national banking association not mentioned in section o, 191 shall have on hand in said coina three fifths of 15 per cent, of tbe aggregate deposits. The eubatilute was agreed to by the full committee. |
