Show I'll E ' L I F 0 1 1 M V CONS TI -I S II O.N. ihe New I n l r n iu e ti t IV o b -ubly fltij etiL'U. San Francisco, 7. The election iu the city has been conducted willi the greatest vigor by both parlies. There was an alaioal total suspension of , business, and the best mon in liie city have1 been ia constant attendance attend-ance at the polls. The vuto is very heavy, probably over 40,000. Opponents Op-ponents ol tbo new constitution are confident it has been defeated in the city by from 10,000 to 12,000 majority. ma-jority. While something must prob-aoly prob-aoly ba allowed for sanguiuo feeling, there is no doubt that, the majority against its adoption Is heavy. Advices Ad-vices from tho country indicate large majorities against it in the populous counties of Alameda, tjanta Clara, Sacramento and others, but not enough has been received to warrant any estimate as to the general reoult. Later The opposition concede this city by 9,000 majority against tbo constitution. The maiority will probably bo over 10,000. Returns from the interior are yet too meagre to state with any accuracy ihe result there, but the present indications are that the vote outside of San Francisco will be a small majority in favor of the new constitution. There ia no question, however, as to the defeat of the instrument, aa tho majority against it in this city will far more than overcome the country returns. During the evening there ha7e been several minor disturbances in tbo city but nothing of a serious nature. |
