Upon opening the saloon in the morning it was discovered that it had been entered, and from $20 to '-o and some postage stamps taken from the till, and that a purse containing about $7 in dimeu and nickles was aUo missing. About half a dozen wine bottles, and some cigars had been carried off, and the lunch atand in the room had a)ao been rifled and considerable meat carried way. The police were immediately informed of the affair, and an examination proved that entrance was gained by the back wiodow. Nails bad been pUctd iu the window to make it secure, but those who robbed the place must have taken them out some time previous aud when the saloou wn9 closed up, all tbe burglars had to do was to raide the window and walk io. Suspicion rested on a fellow named Charles Smith, and be was arrested. The police theu inquired as to who were his aBSOoiatea and their inquiries resulted in the arrest of Albert Cain and Fred Nuon. The IbbI named person was afterwards discharged, after having bad an additional ad-ditional bearing on a charge of steal ing a meerschaum pipe from a Chinese Chi-nese wash house seme days ago. The other. fellows were searched, aud some money and the missing postage slampB recovered. Smith had been Bleeping in the old tannery, which place was also searched and the wine bottles aud portions of the lunch were found. Their examination was postponed post-poned uotil Monday at 10 o'clock, and they were placed under bonds. Smith is the person who was recently arrested in connection with stealing a shot gun from Harvey, but was dischsrged from the insufficiency of evidence. |
