Show City Council. Proceedings at the city council on Tuesday evening, December 17th, Mayor Little presiding: A petition was received from a number of the taxpayers of the 10;n ward, calling attention to the bad condition of Jordan or North Temple street through the overflowing of water, and asking that the water be turned into the culvert, as it is not believed to be used in winter, and by diverting it into the channol desired at j a point east of the railroad, it will prevent the overflow and consequent freezing which renders it dangerous. The petition waa received and the matter referred to the watermagter . with instructions to adjust it as he i thought best. The committee on finance, to horn was referred tho mnnrf nf n, of public accounts, reported that they had examined the report of the auditor aud-itor and found it to be correct, and that his receipts agreed with those of the treasurer, aud the committee, therefore recommended that the ro port be accepted and adonted. and published as usual. Report received end adopted. The coiumittee to whom was referred re-ferred the annual repoit of the treasurer, reporied that they found the accounts therein Bet forth to be correct, and recommended th!iu,the treasurer's report be accepted and placed on file. They also Btated that they bad destroyed the redeemed auditor's warrants in the possession of the treasurer, as instructed by the council; also that they found in the treasury bills receivable amounting to ?3oi), which were barred from collection by the statute of limitation, and the committee recommended that an appropriation be made to the treasurer in order that this amount might be cancelled. Report received and adopted aud the appropriation was made. The committee on improvements. lowborn was referred the petition of Richard Rrimley and others, regarding regard-ing improvements on the canal in the oth ward, reported that they had conferred with the county court concerning the improvements prayed for, and the latter stated that they were not in a condition to assist in making the petitioned improvements, improve-ments, and the committee therefore recommended that, as the city did not claim control of the canal, the petition be laid on the table indefinitely. indefi-nitely. Report received and adopted. Tho committee to whom watt referred re-ferred the matter of the collection of poll tai from policemen, claimine to oe exempt by reason of their being firemen, reported that thev bad con-suited con-suited with the chief engineer of the fire department, who. stated that he had issued certificates to such of the force as had assisted at fire, and the committee recommended that, hereafter, here-after, the chief engineer only is&ue certificates to such policemen aa have complied with the requirements ol the fire department. The committee on municipal laws reported a bill for an ordinance in relation re-lation to Bidewalks, which was taken up and, after some consideration, referred back to the committee. Council adjourned until next Tuesday Tues-day evening, at the usual hour . |
