Section 1. Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, That no awnings shall be constructed on or over any ol tbe sidewalks within the limits of this city except au hereinafter here-inafter provided: All canvas awnings ehall be affixed to, and suspended from the buildings, and where the sidewalks are not less than twenty feet wide they Bhall not project over the Bidewalk to exceed ten feet, no part ot which shall be leas than eight feet above the grade of tbe same. And where the sidewalks are less than twenty feet in width said awnings shall not project from the buildings to which they are suspended more than eight feet, and no part thereof shall be less than eight feet above the grade of the sidewalk. Sec. 2. All permanent awnings Bhall be constructed the entire width J of the sidewalk, tbe outside line ol the potts or supports of said awnings I on sidewalks of twenty feet.in width ! ehall be uniformly nineteen feet from 1 the line of the lots, and where tbe 5 sidewalks are lesa than twenty feet in width, said posts or supports shall be s uniformly within aix inches of, and s on a line with, the outer edge ot the sidewalk. All Buch posts or supports Bhall be placed on substantial stone footings. The deck or roof of said awniogs shall be water-tight, and within the hre limits snail be covered with metal or ether incombustible material, no part of which on side walk9 twenty (eet wide ehall be leeB than twelve fset above the grade, aud on sidewalks less than twenty feet wide, not less than ten feet above the grade. The whole to be thoroughly braced and constructed in a safe and substantial manner, to the acceptance of the inspector of buildings. Sec. S. All persona before erecting permanent awnings within the fire limits Bhall aubmit plans and specifications, specifi-cations, including the kinds of material mate-rial to be used, to the inspector of buildings, for his approval. Sec. 4. No sign or sign post of any design or description shall hereafter be erected on any sidewalk or projeot over, across or along tbe outer edge of any sidewalk, or acro33 any water ditch, or on or over any Btreet; and no Bign shall project from auy building to which it is attached more than twelve inches. fciEC. 0. All awnings and all signposts sign-posts or eigu boards, of any deeign or description, now standing on tbe eidewaika, projecting over or across the Bidewaiks or water ditohes, or on the streets outside the water ditches, within this city, except such awnings as have been permanently constructed according to law or by permission of the City Council, or which are in accordance with the provisions of this Ordinance, are hereby declared obstructions, ob-structions, and Bhall be removed within one month from the publication of this ordinance. Sec. 6. Auy person violating or failing to comply with any of the provisions of this ordinance ehall be liable to a fine of not to exceed ninety-nine dollars, or imprisonment not to exceed thirty daya, or both. Aoy person failing to remove any ol the obstructions named in this or- therein, thall be liable to a further fine of five dollars for each and every day that Buch obstruction so remains. Sec. 7. An ordinance entitled "An Ordiuauce Kelating to Signs and Awningi," passed May 21dt, 1878, and all uther ordinnucea and parts of ordinances iu conflict with thia Ordinance, Or-dinance, be and the same are hereby , repealed. 1'atsed, December 13th, 1878.
