Show Pluiulered lu Clileoso. Chicago, 22. J. E. Gill, of San Francisco, and fcrmerly of Santa Barbara, where he ws connected with the press, was tha victim of a skillful and cleverly executed robbery, here yesterday. Iu turning a corner he slipped on the icy pavement and received a heavy fall. A well dressed young man aided him to his feet, and relieved him of a wallet containing $325 in money, aud before Mr. Gill had recovered fioni his fall the thief escaped. He has met several mis-lortunes mis-lortunes lately. He is said to be very well known on the Pacific coast. Affairs of this kind are becoming more common daily and there is a strong public sentiment against the seeming ineffioieucy of the police force, and Ibe growiug number and boldness of the highway robberies id the city. |
