Show Imprisoning a Reporter. St. Louis, 22. Quite a commotion in newspaper and legal circles, to-day. was cauEed by the imprisonment of M. Rensbaw, a reporter for the Globe-Democrat, Globe-Democrat, for contempt of court. A few days ago be wrote an article, published in the Globe-Democrat, giving giv-ing eome information touching an investigation by tbo grand jury of tho causes which led to tho burning of Powell's carpel house, eome weeks ago. Jtte was summoned before the grand jury, and refusing to reveal the name of his informant, he was reported to Judge Laugblin, and by him committed, to remain until he gave the desired information, A writ of habeas corpus will bo applied for, to-morrow, by the proprietors of the paper, and tho question whether newspaper reporters can be compelled com-pelled by a grand jury to violato the' pledge of secrecy will be contested to j the fullest limit, |
