B battery and the police are now diaper-ing the mob. Later. The riot is on the increase. The Btrikers now number some thouB ands. B battery were forced to retreat, re-treat, the riot act net having been read. Captain provost, the adjutant and some other of the men are badly cut with Btones. The mob have broken into Kenaud's store andBtolen therefrom nearly 2,000 barrels of flour, compelling carters to take it away. The military are marching up and down St. Paul Btreet at 2.30 attempting to di-perae the crowd, but without avail. Later. The riot act has just been read, and firing commenced. One man is reported killed and several wounded. ll.SOp.m. Several rioters and spectators spec-tators are wounded. Captain Short aud provost are badly cut with stones, and some bullets are also believed to have taken effect in the arms ard legs. Two or three of the mob have received sabre cuts from the cavalry. Everything now ia quiet, the rioters dispersed and B battery is guarding the parliament house. |
