The House bill to increase the pensions pen-sions of totally disabled Roldiera and sailors was reported with amendments amend-ments and placed on the calendar. The Senate bill to authorize the issue of a supply o farms to the authorities autho-rities of the State of Nebraska was discussed until tbe expiration of the morning hour, when it went over aud the Senate resumed consideration of the bill for the incorporation of railroad rail-road companies in the Territories, tho pending question being on the motion of Wright to recommit, widen Wright withdrew, and moved to strike out the section giving Iherightof way through public lands to such railroads, aud the authority to lake from such lanla material for tho construction and maintenance of tho road, ground for stations, etc.; agreed to. The bill was further amended by striking out the fourteenth section, which authorizes author-izes a corporation, organized under the act, to acquire by purchoso or gilt any lands in the vicinity of its road, or through which tho same may pass, and convey tbe same in such manner as the directors may pre scribe. An amendment granting ten acres of public lands for every ten miles of road for station buildings, build-ings, depots, shops, etc., was adopted. adopt-ed. Clayton moved an amendment, requiring overy road organized under tho act to maintain at some point on the line of tho road on olliee where the books shall be kept open at all times for inspection; agreed to. Hagcr moved an amendment providing that the provisions of tbo bill should not apply to the District of Columbia; agreed to. Buckingham moved an amendment forbidding the construction construc-tion of any road across an Indian reservation. Sargent moved a substitute substi-tute so as to provide lhat a road should not cross an Indian reservation reserva-tion unless written permission from the Socrclary of Iho Interior was first obtained. ' Kobei li, from tho Ways anil Means Committeo, reported a bill to repeal certain moieties, lie said tho bill referred re-ferred to only ono branch of tho sub- , ject, which the committee was still considering, and would in duo time report upon. Wood said the bill bad not received tfio voto of tbo committeo. - Ho thought it did not go far enough. Bill ordered printed and recommitted. The bill reported yesterday by Woodford, limiting tho recoipt of pay from tho United Siatee by tho oflicois thereof to their regular salaries and necessary traveling expenses when on ollicial btisinras, ciimu up and was discussed by ; Wood ford and Merriam in favor, and Dawes and Duller, of Mass., in opposition, as not being sullicicnlly matured. Finally, on motion of Woodford, who admitted tho bill needed soniu modifications, it was referred lo the Committeo on Ways and Means. . i;- I The House resumed consideration of the Currency Bill, 15. The excitement which was growing all Iho forenoon intensified inten-sified when the opponents of tho bill under thu leadership of Butler ot Mum., who desired tho Senate bill substituted for it, voted down tho urevioti3 question, and thus gavo Butler control of tho mutter. Ho promptly, amidst great con fusion aud excitement, moved to postpone i further consideration of tho bib till : Tuesday next, staling that h would follow tho voto with a motion to tulto up and pass tho Senate bill, The motion to postpone carried. Butler thou moved to reconsider and lo lay tho volo on the tablo, but a yoto lo adjourn waa mtido and passed. Tho bill comes up immediately after thu reading of tho journal tomorrow. |
