The cagiue room of the machino shop, o low-roofed building some fifteen or twenty feet square, had caught lire in the roof. The fire was discovered hy the night watchman, before it had made much progress, and the engineer en-gineer of the night passenger engine sounded on alarm, which quickly called forth a small army of railroad men, who formed a pail brigade, and passed along a supply of water from a spring at a short distance from tho building. A lew moments answered to dampen and discourage the incipient incip-ient conflagration. It is supposed the fire caught from the pipe which passes Uirough tho roof, either from the heat thereof or from a spark. The crowd lingered about the place a few momenta and then departed, sadly h 11 milling, "It might have been!" '' |
