Show PROSPECT OF A ROW. MaLmioras, 19. There are apprehensions appre-hensions of serious trouble at the election for Itfuybr ol" this city. Gen. Carling, who received a majority of the popular votes, is obnoxious to the present city authorities, who are endeavoring en-deavoring to prevent him being declared de-clared elected by the return Judges when they meet next Sunday. Four or five hundred of Carhng's friends are said to be under arms with a view to sustaining the claims of their chief. The city authorities are represented to have applied to the national government gov-ernment by telegraph for support from the Federal troops in the city, which was denied. The guards and regular troops have been withdrawn from the public buildings, and the oity authorities have placed State troops on duty. As the natioual forces will remain neutral in the -contest, G-aneral Carling doubtless will be successful. |
