Show University Library. At 6 o'clock last evening the University Uni-versity Library was .thrown upen to the public, free, and up till 10 o'clock, the time of closing, was visited by many of our citizens. Dr. Park, the principal of the University, has labored long and earnestly to gather a library of useful and entertaining reading matter for the free use of the public; and his eflorts have been rewarded re-warded by the collection of between 2,000 and 3,000 volumes of good books, beaidi-a many of the magazines maga-zines and periodicals of the day. He has also made arrangements for securing some of the leading dailies. The library room is the large hall on the first floor of the University building, build-ing, which has been fitted up spe- dally for a reading room. It will be open every week day evening from 6 to 10 o'clock. We were pleased to notice last evening that a number of young men were present, and hope many others will avail themselves of this excellent opportunity to store their minds with useful knowledge. |
