Show Why did not Judge ilcKean "step down and out," when he determined to prosocute the Hekald for a libel upon himself? Was it absolutely necessary for his honor to make the parade of bringing the grand jury into the court room to indict this journal ? Would not a word in the ear of the Attorney General have answered an-swered the purposo as well, and saved the judge the appearance of seeming to be a public prosecutor in a caso to which he is ft party ? Such a course, ! however, might not answer sensa- j tional purposes as well, and it would have given no opportunity for an appeal to Buncombe. The I idea of the grand jury reviewing' his honor's entire life was an extreme-1 ly ludicrous one, but it will doubtless 1 read well in print. Perhaps, how-J ever, there is somethiug libellious in this suggestion, and we refrain from j extending it. I |
