Show The Shooting; ot Mr. Buclilond. New York, 19. The Times has received re-ceived no further news as to the shooting of its correspondent, Mr. Buckland. Intelligence of the aflair was immediately communicated by Postmaster General Jewell, whose secrtu ry Buckland had been in Russia, and he bus dispatched from Washington. The Times says it has no defiuite particulars. Guv. Jewell could only conjecture that Buckland was shot on the pretence that he was a bpy with a concealed purpose which is hardly probable and that it was tho determination to prevent the publication of any letters or iu filiation filia-tion from the Car list camps. Aj Mr. Buckland and his comrade, Mr. Girurd, are Englishmen, the duly would devolve upon England in demanding de-manding from Spain an explanation and realm Lion. There is nj baiis for interference by the United Suites. Action to be taken by England wiil depend much upon the altitude of the press ot that country, and Gov. Jewell hoped its veiee would be unanimous unan-imous for prompt and decisive measures. |
