Show Miss Annie Graham. This talented actress makes her appearance ap-pearance at the Theatre this evening in her groat personation of Cora in the fine society piny of'L' Article 47." The acting of Miss Graham in this part is something wonderful and has drawn forth the highest enconiums of praise wherever it has been seen. A eading phyaici n of the insane asylum at Stockton, after witnessing her performance of the part, wrote her a letter, which was published at the time, and from which wc extract tbe following : In mv prol'e.ion, I have bad the painful 'pleasure of witnessing on many occasions, the vagnrics and ex liihilions of persons demented. I have closely oi'served them while in the whirlpool of I heir mania, and it is from my observation and knowledge of those unfortunate people, that I am enabled to express an opinion of your simulated madness, in the last two acts of "L' Article 47." It was indeed a grand a magnificent piece of acting, so intensely natural, that for a moment, I was almost deluded into the belief that you were really mad. The irregular and frenzied movements of your exprcssivo eyes, the nervous twitchings of the eyelids ; the sudden changes from liatlcssncss to energy ; the quivering emotion upon beholding in your disordered fancy the image of Georgo ; the meaning mean-ing laugh; the face portraying in tbo strongest colors, tbe iroesistible desire de-sire of vengeance; the consuming hate that clouded the beauty of your features, fea-tures, all combined to render it the most perfect aud natural imitation of madness that I have ever seen. Tho acting "was superb grand thrilling. Wc have before us in addition to the abovo the opinions ot several of the leading papers of San Francisco, all speaking in the most complimentary complimen-tary terms of the lady's rendering of the part. The Golden Era says :. True merit and genius will compel recognition, and forco its passago to the heart of an audience, as evidenced by the universal voice of the press, and acclamation of the people. Need we say that wo refer to Miss Graham's triumph as Cora, in "L'Articlc 47." "L' Article 47" is strongly cast, all tbe leading members of the company appear iu it, and a rich histrionic treat may be expected to-night. |
