Show Distinguished Visitors. On Sunday evening the distinguished distin-guished party of wealthy railroad gentlemen, whese coming was mentioned men-tioned in the Herald last week, arrived in the city, and took rooms at the Townsend House. The party consisted of Jay Gould, Esq., the distinguished dis-tinguished Wall street operator and railroad manipulator, New York; Hon. Oliver Ames, and Cyrus La-throp, La-throp, Esq., Mass.; Mr. G. P. Moro-sini, Moro-sini, Secretary for Mr. Gould; Sidney Dillon, President, Thoa. L. Kimball, Esq., General Ticket Agent, E. P. Vining, Esq., General Freight Agent, 3. H. H. Clark, Esq., General Superintendent," Super-intendent," and O. H. Earll, Esq., Division Superintendent, U. P, R.R.; Hons. John, S, Delano and John L. Morriam and Co! .James Moore with their wives Government Commissioners Commis-sioners to examine the Union Pacific; Hon. A. W. Wilder and wife, Minn.; Hon. W. Dwyer, Ohio; Gen. Dodge, formerly Chief Engineer, U. T. E.R.; and Thomas J. Sheridan, Esq. Yesterday morning the above company, com-pany, together with a number of ladies and gentlemen of this city, accepted ac-cepted the invitationofBishop Sharp, Col. F. Little, and Hon. Wm. Jennings, Jen-nings, respectively of the U. C, U.S. and W. J. Y. R. R.'s, and passed over tho last two roads. The weather was magnificent and the excursion to Provo, including a run up to Little Cottonwood on the narrow guago, afforded the visitors the highest gratification. The gentlemen gen-tlemen expressed themselves as much pleased with the progress of railroad enterprise in this Territory, and with the evidence before their eyes of the prosperity around them. ,They were unanimous in the opinion that a people who have shown themselves so capable of managing their own affairs are entitled to the advantages of a State government, by which their opportunities for rapid development develop-ment will be largely increased. Mr. Dillon and his friends leave us on Wednesday, and wo heartily wish for them and the Union Pacific all the success they anticipate froiu their connections wi'll the enterprises ol this Territory. |
