Show Gone. . . We learn with much regret of the death of Dr. John E. Spencer, at Santa Barbara, Cal., on the iitith ult. Many of our citizens will well remember this young gentleman as the U. S. assistant surgeon to Dr. ' Vollum.of Camp Douglas, a few years ago. He was by birth and education a gentleman, and in all- his intercourse inter-course with our citizens he was afL.blo and dignified. From overwork in the hospital at Philadelphia he contracted contract-ed disease thatculmiated in consumption consump-tion and he came West in quest of health. He resigned his commission, in the army and sought the balmy breezes of the Pacific and made Santa Barbara his homo. Ho was highly respected aud his death is much lamented. |
