Frank Tilford. The audience was one of the largest of the season, and tho lecture was certainly one of tho most interesting of the course. In theppeak-cr's theppeak-cr's known happy style he , described early California society and then gave short sketches of the lives of the pioneers, pio-neers, Murray, the jurist who first shaped the mining laws of the United States, and Broderick, whom he described de-scribed as "neither priest, jurist nor statesman, yet was a leader of tho people."
