Show THE MISSISSIPPI NECRO WAR. 1 Memphis, 12. Parties who arrived by the steamer St. Francis this morning morn-ing state that the negroes occupied Austin at 2 p.m. yesterday. Captain Lee soys thcro is a story in circulation that, alter having received a repulse, the negroes began to murder the children and women in the neighbor- . ing plantations. Troops have been ecnt out from this city 4 defend the unprotected families. Tho negroes, j when they took the town, proceeded to break open tho stores and saloons and pillage tiie town. It was feared lliey would burn the village, though they had committed no outrages against the whites at last accounts, but had rnado threats to kill a lar-'e number. It is proper to state that politics had nothing to do with this trouble, and that Mayor AYoodscn, ami others with whom the negroes side, are Republicans.
