A large meeting of citizens was held here last night to express the indignation of the community com-munity at the barbarous murder of colored prisoners taken from Trenton jail. B. M. Estes presided, with Gov. Harris, Judge Archibald Wright, Charles Claytivech as Vice Presidents. Speeches were made by ex-Gov. Harris, Har-ris, Jefferson Davis, Col. Duncan McKee. General Forest and others, denouncing the cowardly assassinations assassina-tions of prisoners, and calling for the prompt and energetic enforcement of tlie law against the perpetrators of the crime. Gen. Forest stated that he stood ready to start to-morrow to assist the officers of the law and bring the assassins to punishment. Resolutions Reso-lutions were adopted expressing the horror and indignation of the community com-munity at the foul crime, and demanding de-manding of the government prompt and energetic measures for bringing the murderers to justice, and relieving the State, as far as possible, from the disgrace of such horrible crimes, and asking the government to employ the police experts of Memphis to assist in capturing the assasins, and to employ the best legal counsel in the State to assist the Attorney General in prosecuting prose-cuting them. |
