Show Somewhere about a year ago, tho Boston papers were greatly exercised over the brutality of some unknown fiend, who, in tho neighborhood of that city, had committed horrible crimes upon the persons oi boys 'and girls of tender age. Several children had been tortured and mutilated in fuch a manner as evinced, on the part of the guilty one, a disposition to hurt, for the sake of cruelty, more-than more-than the accomplishment of any other direct purpose. A boy named Edward Pomeroy, of eccentric habits, was closely watched, and finally arrested as the person guilty of the outrages. The boy Pomeroy excited a great deal of sympathy at the time, and he wns placed in a reformatory institution, and a few weeks since regained his liberty. Kow comes the news from the east that his murderous disposition dispo-sition had returned and he had attacked at-tacked a little boy of four years and a half of age. He had stabbed his little victim about thirty times, and had almost severed his head from hia body. When interrogated on the subject, ho confessed that he committed com-mitted the atrocious deed. There is now no doubt of his thorough insanity, insan-ity, and that with him a thirst for human blood was a natural desire. Other children had been attacked by him, and tho whereabouts of one of them is still entirely unknown. There la, naturally enough, a terrible sensation sen-sation in tho neighborhood where the bloody deeds have been committed. |
