Show SLt'E LEDGE DISTRK T. Dr. ttrcgory's DUcorcrlc. Summit County. U. T., I Aug. 16, 1872. 1 Editors S-ih Lake llcraid: I wrete a lino to Mr. Peterson, of this place, who was on a visit to your city, in regard to bringing out my mail matter, and in thin note I mentioned men-tioned two di.-euveries I had the good luck to make the nest day after my arrival here. He iufbrms me that he handed the note over to von. and that it would be published. Had I thought I of men a thing I would have been j nj'TO particular in staling l ho facts, which are as fullows : ! On the l:h iuataut I left tlia Taylor i hotel, Salt L-iko city, ly Kimball's! coach, tor this luL:, and put up at 1 bis hotel, where I now am. On the ! morning of ihe 13th, I started out to j prospect the foot hills and mouniains j near the stage road, a:id nearer to Salt j Lake city by ei'hc miie than any claims yet discovered. On reaching the summit of the highest mountain, ; except the snowy rano, I y-iy excel- , lent il'iat ore. I followed it up, and at 1 10 o'clock made the d'seovcry of a lode thirteen and a half teet widj, and at ! sixteen inches depth of the character of : ore I send you by to day's ooacb. i I made another discovery at 2 o'clock of the sauio day, and as the crevice is fiiied with crystaliz id quartz matter, I have named it, ihe crvstal lod. ; tho first, the Gregory lode. The crystal lode, between walls, is nearly sixteen fet, aod looks first rato. I have fulfilled the requirements of tho law as regards getting tho crevice dt fined, &o., aud am pushing down the discovery dis-covery bhafts on each lode. 1 will keep you posted as I go down, aod send you some of tho crevico aiatter from time to time, as I believe it necessary. neces-sary. Tho ore I send you by to-day's coach is an average of the crevico matter at a depth of t.vo feet eaeh. The lodes are near each other, and within two miles of tho stage road, three miles from Kimball's hotel, twenty-one miles from your oity, and iu a beautiful locality lo-cality to work at. Tho most of the miners in this sec tion, that I have yet beard of, arc old California placer miners, aod know but little of quartz mining; yet they know a great deal more than any one else to hear them tell it. I havo an excellent man, and good gulch minor ol' that class, who knew nothing of this locality. Such a thing as good lodes in a sand rock formation is unheard of to them; but in this locality such is a fact. Instead In-stead of tho beautiful granite as in Georgetown, Colorado, we havo all saod rock and limo rock or lime stone. Truly yours, Paul Greuorv, M. D. P. S. Water and timber are io abundance on each claim; the water from springs and ico cold. |
