In a letter read at Washington yesterday, from the governor gov-ernor ol North Carolina, in response to a request for a copy of the certificate of election from the secretary of that State, he says the result of the elec tioo, ofijcialiy, is not made known till alter the speaker of tho house opens all the returns in the presence of both branches of the legislature which does not convene until the third Monday in November. The returns of some fif teen counties, yet to be heard from, are semi-official and it is pretty satisfactorily satis-factorily ascertained that Caldwell's majoriiy will range from 1.S00 to 2,500. |
