Show NEWS FltOJI LITTLE COT TO V WOUW. Alta, Little Cottonwood, Dec. 25, 1672. Jfcssrs. Editors: Much has been said respecting the mines of this district through your really valuable paper, and I am positive posi-tive that many claims have been found and located by the encouragement you havo at all times given to the prospector. prospec-tor. Tho mines that are sulliciently developed de-veloped to call them mines, are yielding yield-ing ore of such richness as to not only astonish the fortunate owners, but the world at largo. I must, in justice to the owners, and Mr. Smith in particular, parti-cular, mention the work done in tho Fdiih mino. Tho discovery was made in Septembor last by Mr. J. R. Smith of Alta. The claim is located at Grizzly Griz-zly I'Ul, W ikfcWt ili-tancn i'mm the well known City of Rocks, and about twelve hundred feet south-west of the Florioda, both No. 1 mines. Work was begun on the Edith on or about tho 10th of November, although tho snow at that time was very deep, and snowing hard. Having no shelter, Mr. Smith began work in earnest, and in two days had a suitable building over the proposed incline; all tho provisions pro-visions and tools was packed over a quarter of a mile; two men only were employed on tho work, and although every inch of it was "blasting ground," yet in the short timo of twenty-six days the -incline was put down over 10 feet, and well and securely timbered. At a depth of thirty toct a vein ol oro ten inches in width, of a high grade, was found, and at a depth of lorty feet, the oro in tho bottom uf the incline is about sixteen inches in width, tho vein pitching to tho cast. Not having suitable winter quarters to puj-h tho work, they have huspeuded operation during tho winter, but will resume as early in the spring as pos-hiblo. pos-hiblo. The mine is owned bv Smith ic Fowler, of Alta, and C. N. lloldcn, ot Chicago, and bids fair to develop itself iato a valuable mine. Alta. |
