Sheriff Schonlan, who left here, Tuesday, with a avalry escort in quest of Francisco Fhtares, alias Ch icon, tho murderer, returned this evening. Thirty miles above tlwy surrounded sur-rounded five Mexican marauders, four of whom succeeded in crossing into Mexico, where they were captured and hanged by Mexican cavalry, co-operating with the sheriff's party. Some time ago general Philo, of the Confederate army, sent a letter to tho secretary of war, asking ask-ing the value of 200 mules eeized by Union troops at Helena, Arkansas. This letter was referred to attorney-general attorney-general Williams, who has given his opinion, holding the claim not good, the property not having been seized in a Sttte which attempted to withdraw from the Union nor belonging to loyal parties. |
