We clip from the Ogden Jmu-don of last evening: A number of gentlemen and ladies, of this city, who went on a bear-hunting bear-hunting excursion last Saturday, were successful in tracking a cub bear to its den. The marksmen soon mado short work of the animal, although not without calling into requisition all their sharp shooting capacities. The mother of the cub came to its assistance, assis-tance, was fired upon, and supposed to be wounded. Mr. John E. Last Saturday, a monte man was brought before Alderman Thompson, charged with gambling and winning 40 from a traveler on his way from the west to Salt Lake. The 'defendant 'defend-ant plead guilty to the charge, and this being the second ollense, ho was fined $100 and sentenced to thirty day's imprisonment. The prisoner gave notice ot appeal from the decision. decis-ion. Thompson rode up and they secured him and brought him back to Ogden. This morning the prisoner was conveyed to Lynne, where he will be examined by Justice Baird.
