Show Kosh llii.shoun. This evening, at tlie Liberal Institute, Insti-tute, the Israelites of this city begin tlie observance of their New Year, 5G34. The days inaugurating this season arc penitential, tlie first of which is known as Kosh Hashona, The chance for doubt as to the corroc day of the commencement of the New Year in various parts of the world, owing to differences of longitude, longi-tude, make the obscrvaucc of more than one day advisable, and therefore the ceremonies are extended over two days; closing at sundown on Sunday. Ilosh JJashona, or New Year's day, is the most solemn of holy days to thp people of that faith which dates back almost six thousand years into the dim and misty dawn of tlie world's birth. Especially noticeable in the service ser-vice of tha Israelites, during the Rosh llashona, is the blast of tlie Sholar or cornet, which is sounded to awaken' the indillercnt or careless, reminding them of the thunders of Sinai and of the judgment of a righteous God upon those who sin against His laws. The voice of thft trumpet warns the people of their ephemeral existence that life is but a dream that quickly passes away, and that . the tjiings of life, upon which the affections are fondly fixed, are as fleeting ns life itself. Amid all the ciiangc-ii .01 ilifiugand-' of eventful years, true Israelites remembet', at this solemn time, the preservation of their peculiar aud distinctive faith through good fortune aud ill, while nations that have persecuted and enslaved en-slaved tfieu; Jiaye disappeared from the face of the earth. The services at the Liberal Insti-)ute Insti-)ute will he held at sundown on Sunday Sun-day and Monday evenings, and at from seven to twelve o'clock Monday and Tuesday mornings.
