Di Ho and Li Xo, two ladies from the celestial empire, and Lun Yung, , a gentleman from the same land, were arraigned before the police court, on the charge of establishing and keeping a house of ill fame. The complaint against them was made by a saffron-colored "Pigtail," but who does not belong to the same company. A Cnineso interpreter was sworn, and a ping of witnesses sang tl trough their parts. Each witness was very positive as the character of the house, and its general reputation. The attorney at-torney for the defense then statal that he had a number of witnesses, all of whom wcro members of the other Chinese company from the one that had been testifying, and that his witnesses wit-nesses would swear positively to the reverse of the former ones; and he intended in-tended to pro luce the most le.-timuuy, as lie would put two more witnesses on the stand than the prosecution had there. The judge said that he was aware that the evidence for the prosecution pros-ecution would be contradicted in every particular; he won It I therefore discharge the prisoners without hearing hear-ing the witnesses for the defense sing their pieces. The ladies' party then swore out an affidavit against Ah Jim, one of the first prosecutors, charging him with robbery. He will have a hearing today. to-day. ' |
