What I tali ne...l-, whsit the country needs, Li hon-i hon-i -l ni"ii in olliec; and so far US they ire elective in this Territory, it is the duty of the people, now as in the past, to see that otl'iccs are filled by such men. There have been charges of illegal voting inside, and we have little doubt that it lias been attempted; in fact there is evidence to prove thsit those wlio have made such charges against the old settlers in the Territory have been cognizant of gross criminality in this respect by their own partisans; and in some instance-! havo ! been directly guilty themselves. Illegal Ille-gal voting is a crime, punishable by law; and one that should bo punished pun-ished to the full extent prescribed, wherever it can be proven to have byen knowingly committed. While the exercise of the elective suffrage is a duty, it should be guarded sacredly and protected from fraud of every kind with the utmost vigilance. And those thsit would knowingly permit any person to d-po-.it an unlawful ballot, are not worthy to have the honor of being citizens in a free country. coun-try. The People's ticket of this county is before the public; the men are well known to the voters; we have no que.-tion of their election; but wc ask all to vote, who have the rigid to do so, tor the men of their choice; and urge that every proper means be adopted to guard against any attempt at frauduh nt voting. |
