Show Latest irom the Elections. Chicago, 1G. Tlie latest reports from the Iowa election make the vote on the State ticket much closer than previous news would indicate. Tlie Trilmne publishes a table of majorities in forty-six counties, showing Carpenter, Carpen-ter, Republican, for Governor, 6,526 ahead, a falling of from his vote of iwo years ago . wmcn, n cquanou in the rest of tho State, will make the contest very close, if it does not defeat de-feat him. 'the Anti-monopolists have undoubtedly carried the Legislature on joint ballot, and probably in both houses. , ; Des Moines, la., 16. Dispatches received by the HI ate llnjisler, to midnight, mid-night, from two-thirds of the vote of the State, indicate Carpenter's majority ma-jority to be not less than 21,000; aloss of over 13,000 from his vote in '71. The dispatches also indicate that, counting the Republicans thatiiold over in the Senate and House, nnd allowing that the independent Republicans Re-publicans will be admitted to the party, there will be a Republican majority, ma-jority, on joint ballot, hi the Legislature. Legisla-ture. Columbus, O., 16.-The result for Governor Gov-ernor is still in doubt. At midnight the Republicans were more confident, claiming the election of Noyes by 1,-500 1,-500 majority, or more. The Democratic Demo-cratic headquarters, where they claim to have reports from ali the counties, except Mahoning, Spaulding, Huron and Mercer, claim Allen's election by a majority oi 1,000, or thereabouts. Ashtabula County gives Noycs 3,034; Allen 980; Republican loss, 1,GS2. F ran kl i n Con n ty , o m ci a I , g i ves Allen a majority of 2,21(7; a Democratic gain oF about 200. The latest figures by both parties are exceedingly close. The heavy Republican Repub-lican loss in Ashtabula is one thing that reduces the majority claimed for Noycs. The latest figures arc to the eileel that tho Democratic gain in tsn or eleven counties, which have only been heaixl from through rumors, rum-ors, will not be as large as the average aver-age gain in other counties, but will elect Allen by a small majority. If Allen should be elected by a majority of less than 500, there will still be doubt on the balance of the State ticket. The meagre returns on other Slate officers indicate that the Republican Repub-lican candidate for Governor ran a Utile behind his ticket. |
