Show Firemen's Exercise. At S o'clock last evening tho fire companies, with their apparatus, proceeded to the tanfe near the Townsend house. The hose was extended about sixty rods west of the tank,and from that point water was thrown over ono hundred fcor, Kvery-thing Kvery-thing worked excellently and tho boys seemed well pleased with the performance perfor-mance of the engino. After returning to the engine hall, a subscription was taken up among the members of the oompaniea for the purpose of buying an organ, to bo kept in the hall. About $70 was subscribed for that object. Within tho past few weeks several parties have presented a number of books to the department; and with an organ, the billiard table, and a finely furnished hall, tho firemen can pass their leisure time very pleasantly. |
