Show Home News From Abroad, The following extracts from a letter by Wo. C. Staines, Esq., written in London under date April 22, to a gentleman in this city, will be found interesting : Messrs. Erastus Snow and J. G. Bleak will be here to-night, on their way to Vienna, where we expeot to meet President George A. Smith and party on the 1st of May, Mr. P. A. Schettler informs me, by letter, that they will be in Munich until the 29th Inst., and are all well. Mr. F. Little and daughter arrived at "Cook's Hotel," in this city, where thoy found Mrs. Little, on Wednesday last. Since then they havo been looking look-ing around the city. They purpose staying hero a few days; afterwards leave lor Liverpool, sail for New York on the 30th inst., and from there, borne. I find this oity much improved since I was hero four years ago. Old, narrow nar-row streets, for miles, in the very centre of London proper, have been pulled down, and fine, wide streets and high buildings are in their place. New bridges over the Thames, fine railroad depots, above and below ground, and everything that can be is being done to faciiitato travel; and to-day, with four millions of people, they have better bet-ter facilities for travel, and the streets are less blockaded than they are in New York; and all these additional railroads, etc., pay good dividends. |
