Show Thieves Caught. Since the late fireat theTjlift House the police have been and are still making every exertion to ferret out and bring to justice the thieves who stole goods from the house on th at night. On Saturday night J. W. Fagan wnd Frank Xounnan were arrested ar-rested on a charge of stealing a trunk belonging to Mr. Creek. Pagan's house was searched, but without success; suc-cess; but yesterday; portions of the trunk were found in an out-house in tho rear of the Wasatch saloon, near Fagan's shop. An examination was commenced last evening, when several witnesses testified. The evidence evi-dence was sufficiently strong to warrant war-rant tho polico justice in holding the accused in bonds to appear next Wednesday, Wed-nesday, when the investigation, is to bo continued. Henry Spencer was also ar rested, "yesterday, on U charge of being implicated in stealing the trunk. Last evening Charles Sluder.brothcr of William Studcr, who is now in jail for stealing liquor from A. M. Smith, was arrested, charged with stealing a trunk containing $1,000 worth of playing cards, belonging to Mr. C. Clinton. On the examination of j course he denied the charge, and , there being no witnesses in court cx- j cept the man who saw Studcr ajsist i to carry the trunk out of the burning J house, the case was continued- till j further evidence could be obtained. In tne meantime a search warrant was issued and the accused's room was searched, he being present. It might be well to say the trunk was found, but it had been robbed of its contents. Studcr lodged in jail last night, that thcro might be no incon-convenience incon-convenience in finding him when wanted, to hear the balance of tho testimony. |
