Show Theatre. There was a good hou5c last night on tho occasion of Mr. Stetson's Stet-son's benefit. "Daring Dick," tho desporato and dead-sure darling duck of a detective; or "High, Low, Jack and thc Game," was played for thc first time, and elioitcd lots of applause, which was distributed freely to the characters, and grew impressive at tho fall of the curtain. As a dramatic work it doesn't rank very high, but it has sufficient romance and sentiment in it to please the million, and so it is a successful sensational play, ending with tho traditional villain getting killed in tho usual happy stylo, while virtue and innoconcc triumph, as they almost always al-ways do on the stage. Mr. Stetson played Daring Dick in a very effcotivo and impressive manner, bringing the house at the close of the second act with a perfect burst of applause, in the pathotio and impassioned finale of the scene. Miss Wallers played a aupcraltitudinoua young lady, of tho Bervant "gal" persuasion, who runs romance with a forty-novelist powor. Miss Deilie Clawson, as tho twin sisters, Miss Edith as tho child of Diok, Messrs. Graham, Thorno, Harris, Har-ris, Mardcn and Wilton arc deserving of more commendation than wo have space for this morning. "Daring Dick" will bo repeated tonight. |
