Show WESTEIIS. California. 3an Francisco, 10. John Samuel, of Concord, Contra Costa county, this afternoon entered tho oihce ol' E. A ilarchant, a collector, and shot him dead, giving him no warning. Four shots were tired, two of which look el-lect, el-lect, one in the head and one in the side. It is stated that ilarchant, who is the father of seventeen children, had been married several limes, and leaves ayoung widow here. Samuel gave himself him-self into custody, and denies the truth of the report which was circulated, that deceased had seduced one of his daughters; however, Le says ho has had trouble with AlarcbanL, for several yeara, and was lately iho recipient of threatening letters trom him. lie declined de-clined to tell any more, except that ho had known the deceased about twenty years. His friends say Alarehant has endeavored to seduce two of Samuel s daughters, while they were in thii city attending school. Ho perjisted in his efforts by writing them letters. The oldest daughter is in Mills, enr'ente, across the ltay. Samuel wept bitterly ;n prison, and said be was sorry for the family of Marchant, who reside hero.
