Both horses eame up fresh and got off at the first score. The " Maid" taking the polo drew out daylight at the quarter, time 34. The " Maid" increased her distance two lengths at, the half mile, 1:03$, with no change to the home 6tretoh, where the " Maid" drew ahead again and pa&sed under the siring 20 yards ahead. Time 2:20. The " Maid" was then closing, and in the third quarter quar-ter " Occident" broke badly, and the ' Maid" passed him ten lengths before he regained his feet. Tlie 'Maid" then easily took the heat in 2.22, beating "Occident" by nearly three quarters of a distance. Budd Doblo, driver of the "Maid," charges Eoff with running into the mare before reaching the first quarter. Eoff ran the wheel of his Bulky against tho stulr. and then over the foot of the ""Maid." The mare'Bfoot was slightly scratched but not damaged to any extent. ex-tent. She will probably be lame a couple of weeks. This action on the part of Eoff is generally condemned. Alter the race Eoff quarreled with Jackson, the owner of the "Maid's" matt, and struck him, but was promptly prompt-ly arrested. This trouble grew out of 1 Kofi's action.
