Show Toe Late Railroad Accident.--In regard to the causes of the railroad rail-road accident near Truckeo, on Sunday Sun-day night, there appears to be some discrepancy. That there was great carelessness on the part of the engineer, en-gineer, or engineers, seems to be the general opiDloo among passengers. Thero were two engines pulling the train, and it is reported that these engines en-gines broke loose, and that the train collided with them, the tender and oars being thus thrown irom the track and over the embankment. Our special spe-cial report gave the prevalent rumor at tho time that the accident was caused by an imperfeot wheel. But the collision theory is sustained by the fact that the tender of the bind engine was jammed and broken as if by being ron into. The train, at the time ot the accident, is reported to have been moviDg at tho extremo speed of sixty miles an hour. If this were eo it seems the whole train must have been demolished. At all events the matter merits the most thorough investiga tion. Railway accidents are, in almost every iostaace, the result of carelessness careless-ness or, what is worse, recklessness, upon tho part of some employes, and the most effective remedy is ju&t punishment whenever the blame can be certainly, attached in any quarter. |
