The assembly then went into joint session. JOINT SESSION. According to previous engagement the assembly met in joiut session, the president of tho council presiding. Councilor Woodruff,on behalf of the joint committee on elections reported the number and kinds of offices to be tilled by tho joint assembly. The assembly then proceeded to elect one probate judge ibr Kane county, and notaries public for the several counties. On motion of councilor Cannon, Mr. F. S. Kichards wai elected commissioner commis-sioner to compile tho laws of congress applicable to Utah Territory. On motion of Mr. Peacock, a com-; munication was addressed to secretary Black, asking him to loan tho furni-1 turo in the legislative halls for the use of the constitutional conventi on. TUB CLOSE. When the joint session closed, the council returned to its chamber. A committee was appointed to w-iit upon governor Woods, who accompanied the in to tho council chamber, when a motion having been that tho council hear from him, he responded in a few brief and appropriate remarks, congratulating con-gratulating tho assembly on tho high character of tho legislation which had been enacted during tho session, which would prove beneficial to tho Territory; and assuring them that if they had differed in opinion he believed their dirtercnocs were honest; and ho parted with them at the close of the session with the kiudest feelings to one and all. His remarks were reeoived with anplause. 'The session terminated about half pas:t one o'clock this morning. |
