Show THE HYDRAULIC FIRE EXTINGUISH EXTIN-GUISH ER. A trial of Parker and Cuok's Hydraulic Hy-draulic Fire Extinguisher was made Saturday in front of'Ilobbs and Cil-more's Cil-more's three story building, on Beale street, and in the presence of a large number of spectators. The test was satisfactory in every particular. The apparatus cousists of u scries of iron tubes shutting within each other like the sections of a telescope. It stands upright up-right on a framework pedestal. At the top of the first section, as it is at rest, is a staging with railway for men to stand on. Water is introduced at the base, cither from an hydrant or from au engine, and the hydraulic pressure forces the tubes up. As one section is carried its length, another starts, and so on till all are run up, or till the mcD on the staging desire to stop. The staging is movable and can bo turned aud extended at will. In the present instance two men went up to the roof of the building, run out their staging and wcro on the roof in less than ten seconds from the time the water was turned on, and a stream coming from an ordinary hydrant. At tho top of the tubing is a cock to which a No 2 nozzle was attached aud a heavy stream of water thrown from it Cuming Cum-ing down, the men stopped at one of the open windows, run the staging to the sill and went in. At the farthest they were carried to the height of about 45 feet, and were enabled to slop at any point. The apparatus weighs about ,uuO pounds and can be hauled on a truck. Ex. |
