Show Pit ee Sriioous. We understand that attempts arc being made in Utah county and other counties in this Territory to inaugurate the frc school system. In the 2nd ward of Provo city the trustees levied a tax this year and had a very full school. The system, sys-tem, after the experiment of this season, obtains favor there. In South Willow creek, in this county, the people peo-ple have run their school upon the taxation system for many years, and having hired, much of the time, the best talent in tho country they have had to supplement Ihe tax collected by a small tuition fee. In American j Pork the free school system has been! in operation for two years, At the first, heavy opposition was encounter-, cd, but latterly all acknowledge the necessity and justness of the movement. move-ment. At the meeting held lately for the purpose of fixing the rate per cent to be levied to sustain free schools for 1672 there was only one objector and he afterwards told the trustees he believed the movement was right. Oue and a half per cent, was the rate agreed upon. The one half ler eeut. was considered necessary in ciniucnce of repairs that had to be made on the school buildings and for m the purpose of augmenting their kIioo! apparatus. |
