Show Eastern Lumber. Utah is now, and had been fur some time past, importing im-porting very large quantities of lumber. lum-ber. Of this the Truckec region ha furnished by far the larger portion. Yet the fact that tho immense pineries piner-ies of Wisconsin and adjoining States could furni.-h lumber for half tho i world, has directed attention eastward to see if as good an article at a cheaper rate could not be obtained from that quarter. As a result of inquiries in--tituted and figures obtained, Messrs. Latimer, Taylor & Co., of this city, deemed it advisable to accept the agency of an immense sash and door factory located in tho Wisconsin pineries, pin-eries, and they now propose to furnish this market with a superior article ol doors, sash and window blinds, at lower prices than have yet ruled here. , While Utah must import such arti-' cles, it is obviously the only wise policy pol-icy to buy where the best can be obtained ob-tained at the lowest rates; and the Wisconsin manufactures are deserving of a fair trial. We have examined the first consignment consign-ment received from this quarter, and find it very large and worthy public attention. There are doors of different .izes, with from two to six panels, wliich sell from $2.75 to $3.50; sash in sizes varying from 7 x 9 to 10 x IS, primed and glazed, window complete, at prices ranging from 1.75 to 4.00 per window; roller blinds from $2.00 to $3.25 per pair. These prices are given that a fair idea may be had ol the figures at which buyers can purchase. pur-chase. The articles aro made from the clearest lumber, free from knots and well seasoned. Messrs. Latimer, Taylor & Co. are the oldest manufacturers in their line in the Territory. Finding their home manufactured work could not compete in price with the imported articles, they sought for a new source of supply, sup-ply, and now believe they can compete with anybody. |
