Show SCHOOL CONVNTIOM IN CACHE. Smitiifield, Cache Co., - Juno 5th, 1871. Editors Herald. On Priday, the 2nd inst., the school trustees and school teachers of Cache county, met in convention at tho Logan Hall at 10 a. m., to take into consideration consider-ation the best method of furthering tho advancement of education; Superintendent Superin-tendent Samuel Hoskelly in the chair. Tho Superintendent reported that tho present conJition of our schools was good, being well supplied with books, etc., and being well attended, the latter having been brought about by tho system of taxation which is adopted by a msijority of the school districts in this county. The school teachers spoka ;in high praise of the National Series of books by Parker & Watson, and say that tho more they uso them tho more they realize tho superiority of the National over any other series they have used. The leading gentlemen of the county coun-ty present at the convention spoke of tho necessity of a higher grado of school than wo have at the present time, and the feelings of W. B. Preston, Pres-ton, Esq., and Supt. Hoskelly were that wo should establish a high school in Logan City, and support it by sending send-ing tho advanced scholars of our settlements set-tlements there, to receive an education which will fit. them to fill honorable positious. This met the mind of all present, and it was resolved that thoso present would use their influence in the matter by presenting the same to the public. " i At the afternoon session the question, ques-tion, "Which is tho best mothod of I teaching tho alphabet, spelling and writing?" wasjbroached, and the subject sub-ject was handled in a masterly manner by some of our teachers, with illustrations illustra-tions on tho blackboard, which proved 1 that they were really interested in the was laid o"cr until next convention. Many other items were canvassed by tho ladies and gentlemen present.
