Show 11 ii -ij i A Car. I Tn ih' Editor of tlf Herald : For the benefit of certain parties who are in travail over my letter to the Omaha Herald, portions of which you very generously reproduced, allow me a few j words of explanation. I came here for three reasons : First, because I wanted to come ; second, to . sell mining machinery ; and third, to see for myself and to afterward write the truth about the mineral resources of this Territory. Certain parties charge me with being actuated by a desire to injure the development of the Utah mines. This I emphatically deny. Ihere is not a man in the Territory who stands ready to do more for its real interests than myself. But I have refused to be governed in fonuiDg my opinions by parties who are ';wildcat-ing" ';wildcat-ing" it. When the proper season comes, I shall be prompt to print and circulate as much truth as any mine in the Territory will warrant. Another word to some over-zealous Gentiles: I am not responsible for any articles that appear in the Omaha Herald except such as appear over my signature. therefore, when they damn the Omaha Herald for being a Mormon Mor-mon paper, they ought to reflect that its editors are abundantly able to make their own defense. The Omaha Herald Her-ald has not retained me to meddle with the politics or the religions of the people peo-ple of Utah. But being interested in everything that conduces to the development devel-opment of the Great West, its columns are open to me as they are to every one else who desires to contribute to that end.
