Show SKLKCTKD. OUDES MINES. Xo liavo on several occa.sions drawn lie attention of our business men to t lio importance of establishing work.-iu work.-iu this city lor tbo reduction of ores, and to tbo lolly of allowing the fortunes for-tunes to bo made out of such an enterprise enter-prise to pass into tho bands of outsiders. outsid-ers. Wo urge ibis matter upon thcii notice once more, with the warning repeated re-peated that if they do not immediately seizo tbo opportunity before tbeui, capitalists with eyes to see and braint to profit by it, will come and take it up right under their noses. Wo are situated in the very best spot in tho mountains for the establishment establish-ment of smelling works. The three railroads meet right at our doors, and wo are in the centre of a district con taining vast mineral resources. Every facility that could be desired for the transportation of ores is ot hand, and if reduction works of some kinds were established in Ogdeu, ihe stuff would Oegin to pour in at once from a hundred hun-dred places about which no uoisb has yet been made iu the mining world. . , Close to our quiet towu a number of valuable lodes aie being developed, v rucli will yet cause a rush to thejouc-liou thejouc-liou cuy. Among them are the following,: follow-ing,: . The "Leopard" and the "Magnolia," in Ogdeu Uauon, are both rodiog out ood paying ore. Tunnels about fort t'eet in length have' been bored into ooth the mines", and experienced pros pectors have pronounced the iuJiea- tuns as the best ihey have seen in Utah. Tne"Cinnebar" rode, discovered by Dr.. JS'eliis, Mr. William Driver and others of this city, promises to be a rich thing iu quicksilver and othei uietals. At a meedug of the claim-nulders claim-nulders ou Thursday eveuiug last, a contract- was let to work it, and all interested in-terested are sanguine of success. At the ' -Copperupobs" mine, a shaft jf twelve teet has been sunk the reek geaing better all the time, and nearly the whole interest iu it has been purchased by Messrs. J. liorrocks and iV. Cil.b.rt of this city. The "'Golden Liaie," with a shaft biny feet deep, is turning out ore that issys 14J of silver to the ton. Secimeus iioui the "Morning Star,'' assayed in Cit. Louis, show seventy- pounus of tin to the ton, besides puitiuns of aunmony, arsenic aud silver. sil-ver. A quantity of ore from this mine has just been shipped to Aew Jersey and tic. Louis for further assays. The " Uncle Sain," in Strong's Cauon, a new discovery, yields rich -peciuieus containing silver, irou and autimuny. The " Black Hawk," also a new discovery, dis-covery, gives promise of high grade jres iu great abundance. The "King Bee", has' a shaft of forty feet, and turns out gold bearing quanz, about . which the company working it do not wish to say much ai present. These are a few of the claims now being steaoily worked, in the immediate immedi-ate neighbornoud of Ugden. AU that is warned to develop them is capital, and all that is needed to hrinz the car-Hal car-Hal necessary, is reduction works, hear enough to .llm minpKto warrant .the making of roads,, 'and .the hauling ot. the ore. . " : . ; , :' With the present high freight tariff on the railroad-; it is useless to talk of shipping the Etuff to other places, but the establishment of reduction works in Ogden would give life to the mining interest, revive mercantile activity, and give general impetus to trade. Let our go-ahead men, if we have any in towu, form a company to estab-dsn estab-dsn these works. A large capital is not required at first, a"25 horse power engine is oifered by one gentleman towards to-wards the enterprise, and there are others who desire to assist. If this is laid hold of by our own lolks ar once, there is money in ic for them, and prosperity for ihe city. If they let it slide, in the usual way, a St. Louis company will be here iu a short time, and iheir opportunity wiU be gone lor- |
