Show DETERMINED SVICIDE. Marlborough, Mass., April 12. Mr. Abner II. Wenzell was formerly principal princi-pal of the Malborough high school, but about two years ago he commenced the practice of law and had recently been appointed "trial justice." Hehasbeen a cripple from youth, and was obliged to use crutches. He was very sensitive and retiring in disposition, but was esteemed by all who knew him. About two weeks ago some foolish parson started a ridiculous story about Mr. Wenzell and one of his clients. The story at length reached Mr. Wenzeh's ears, and so excited him, as he now says, he couldn't sleep at night and was almost crazy by day. On Thursday last he took his wife and child, a girl of six years, over to Medway to visit his wile's mother. On Friday morning he rose early and dressed himseli'. He then went out to the woodpile and sat down on the chopping block. Taking out a Smith & Wesson six-shooter he commenced blazing away in the direction of his heart. After empting the six bairels he took out the chamber and deliberately deliber-ately reloaded, and theu fired another shot just under the ribs on the lett side. Finding all these ineffectual, he next fired into his right ear, then behind be-hind the ear, and lastly just over the ear. At this point he became insensible, insensi-ble, and stopped shooting. He fell to the ground, where he was almost immediately im-mediately found by his family. Medical aid was summoned, but it was thought unnecessary to probe the wounds, as nothing could be done to save the life of the unfortunate man. Now comes the most singular part of this strange story. On Thursday afternoon after-noon he was still alive and perfectly rational, without any inflamation. He conversed hopefully with his friends about his chances of recovering, expressing ex-pressing himself as determined to live and go back to Malboro and disprove the slanderous stories concerning him. All the ten bullets are now in him. Three of them are supposed to bo im-beded im-beded in the brain, while the other sevea are somewhere in the vicinity of his heart. J7. T. Sun. |
