Show The Ex-Emperor to Marshal MacMahon. Marshal MacMahon has received a letter from the Emperor Xapoleon, in which he says: "At the moment of your return to France, it is my duty to recall to you the services of the army which was so unfortunately compelled to surrender at Sedan. It is not just that tho officers, non-commissioned officers and men, who behaved be-haved so well in the different combats that took place, should be deprived of the promotion and rewards to which they are entitled. Since I became a prisoner I have received several applications appli-cations on this head. I have felt a real regret not to be able to do justice to them, for the army of Sedan fought well, and is the only one which has received re-ceived no recompense. I think it is your duty to prepare a memorial of application ap-plication for the soldiers who were under your orders, and to submit them to the Minister of War on your arrival in France." |
