Show "Pcttino Ox a Hbad." An individual indi-vidual who resides in Ogden and hold; an office under Government there, and who plants himself squarely against the Mormon faith, was in this city on Saturday night ; and, forgetting that Government does not allow polygaruists to hold office under it, played the gal-! lant to a young lady to and from the ! theatre, his wife in Ogden, we presume, being unconscious of the fact. On nearing the residence of the young lady he was accosted by some men, unknown, who inquired what ke was doinr out with a lady at that nnseasnn- able hour. He replied it was none of i their business, drawing his pistol at t the same time. He was immediately j knocked down and the pistol taken I from him, the lady being escorted to j the gate leading to her own residence. J As some pistol shots were heard close ! by immediately after, and no one was hurt, the supposition is that the pistol pis-tol was fired into the air. The damaged dam-aged official only received a couple of clips on the head. He subsequently charged the father and a brother of the young lady with having capsized him, but the former denied any knowledge know-ledge of the matter, or that he was aware his daughter was in such company ; saying, at the same time, that if he had not J whipped the official it was only what he should have done. We should state that our information was derived, at second hand, from the gentleman wh had the "head put on him." Out of respect to the families we withhold the names. While we have no particular fault to find with the fellow being served as he was, we deprecate its being done, at such an hour. It should have been done in open day, and he told on the spot what it was for. We state distinctly dis-tinctly that we are opposed to giving certain newspaper correspondents the chance to write up calumnious assassination assas-sination stories on such foundation. Will not a certain correspondent here try to make such a case out of this? |
