A correspondent writes us concerning concern-ing co-operation, and makes the point that the co-operative sign is to all in tent and purpose a "traele mark" which no one has a right to use. Of the principle of co-operation and the working of the Parent Institution he says : Co operation was designed for the people, and the door of subscription to-day stands open for all who wish to enter. They can examine its details and subscribe if they see fit. Its dividends divi-dends are honorably and promptly paid. It has reduced the price of goods lower than any other house, qualify considered, for no cheap goods are bought by it solely with the intent to deceive those who judge by price only. It has proven its capacity for stemming a torrent of opposition seen and unseen, and it stands as the true palladium of the people's strength. It has shown the true relation of capital to labor, and it says plainly if the people peo-ple would be free let them co-operate. Co-operate, and let us cease these exhaustive ex-haustive draughts on our wealth, by producing at home that which we need, as fast as we possibly can. 'I he principle of being self sustaining was the great idea of this scheme. It was designed to establish a uniform system of trade, to sustain ourselves, to maintain ''the household of faith," to show a capacity for doing our own business, and to give to every man a share in the profits. It was not for the few but for the many. Data. |
